maybe she did, maybe he could not get past the despair, addiction, depression, etc... i am sure this song has done exactly what you suggested, saved someones life, if not lives. if you have been lucky enough to never find yourself at the lowest point in life, consider yourself extremely blessed.

Great song, anything that comes from your heart cannot go wrong. First time I heard it was in the film "City of Angels". She wrote this it in memory of her friend Jonathan Melvoin, a drug addict who finally killed himself with a heroin overdose. If Sarah has the talent to choose the right words for a song like this, why she did not find the words to help her friend stop using before he kill himself? It's a nonsense. You could your talents for more than just making a good song...to save a life.

It seems this song has been played at a lot of funerals but it has emotional impact. I was in my my mid 40's when my Godfather passed. They played this song at his funeral and I am not embarrassed to say that it brought tears to my eyes and still does when I hear it. I can only hope my sons and grandchildren will think of me when I'm gone when they hear it too. I have asked that this be played when I am laid to rest too. Beautiful song. Thank you.

Lyrics:
Spend all your time waiting
for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
there's always one reason
to feel not good enough
and it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
oh beautiful release
memory seeps from my veins
let me be empty
and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight

in the arms of an angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort there

so tired of the straight line
and everywhere you turn
there's vultures and thieves at your back
and the storm keeps on twisting
you keep on building the lie
that you make up for all that you lack
it don't make no difference
escaping one last time
it's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

in the arms of an angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort there
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here
