user Well done ! Very good sound quality for this cover. Congratulations.
user Better than some of the primrose stuff lately. Your guitars always sound a bit thin. You sound like you're not using an amp. You've got to use amps man! You are a good songwriter, but your guitars always sound flat. More care on production. But good effort. Being constructive here, I'm a musician myself.
user You realize your listening to it on youtube quality right?
user And in reply to that... thanks for the compliment. I think you're oversimplifying about guitar sounds, especially these days. Firstly, the sound I get in these recordings is pretty much the sound I want. Though I obviously like a lot of old recordings, that doesn't mean I want to sound like them. "Old" does not equal good. And "amps" does not equal good either. The first Smiths album has an incredibly thin clinical guitar sound, which has its place. (continued...)
user Also the technology has changed beyond recognition since the 80s. People claim to be able to tell apart a real amp and a modern digital emulation. What they're really hearing is differences in EQ and compression in old and modern recordings. It interesting that you think this track sounds "better" and yet I didn't use a real amp on this one either. I did turn the gain up on my amp emulator though.
user Firstly, I think this track sounds better because it catches the vibe of the original. Secondly, the Smiths first album does sound cold, mainly because of the Roland amp Marr was using. I have tried to recreate even that sound using an amp emulator and not nailed it. The results were rather woolly. However, using a tele, chorus pedal, Marshall amp (of all the amps!) with relevant bass treble and reverb etc. and the assistance of a setting of about 65 on the mid range EQ of my BR1600CD
user (continued)I got very close. Like me, you're a fan of Rickenbackers. Imagine how good the World Is Waiting would sound using a Ric/Vox AC30? There is no better sound than that combination. Guitar emulators alone do not capture the true dynamics of your playing.
user I agree with Duanestargazer. Your guitars are laways sounding like when I put my 12string in the PA directly. But if you like this sound it's ok. I don't critisice anyhting...Peace&Love. Krystof
