TurtleRocker is right. Bruce reported dutifully when he received his draft notice. He was rejected for medical reasons. When he went home & told his dad, who was very patriotic & thought his son rebellious, said, "That's good." If you knew anything about Bruce, you would know that story. Bruce loves his country & his fellow man. What he doesn't like is anything senseless & mindless. He thinks for himslef & encourages everyone to do the same.

I remember the great actor John Wayne, who is one of my favorite actors ever to make a movie. But after a while, he started to believe he was THAT hero he played in the movies. Springsteen is now like that, too. He writes these wonderful songs about the horrors of war, the travails of the working class life, and reformulates all the trite populist Woody Guthrie stuff. I like Springsteen a lot. But when he had a chance of being a war hero, he chickened out. Has he ever played for the troops?
