I think what she's saying is that Fame is her substitute for love. "I traded fame for love". When she says "the face of you...should I wait for you" she's questioning Fame. Fames has no face, and it's fluid (grows and changes). By the end of the song I think she realises that her substitute for love was a mistake and she changes her mind wanting something real, emphasized by her 'daughter'.
