Their sound is really south african influenced especially the guitars-I think it's probably their image i.e. ivy league backgound the yachts and sweaters.

Because they have the audacity to take those african sounds and use them in the whitest way they can. This could never be mistaken for afrobeat, it's just too damn white sounding.
