This, as well as the whole album's videos (Reckoning), were just them hanging out at Rev. Howard Finster's place. He did the cover, and was a king of weird 'outsider' art.

I have to think that this song/band was a big influence for Bloc Party.

rem still do alright (fan since out of time) but their early stuff reminds me of long jouneys and doing stuff as a kid, they were kinda my soundtrack of youth band, and they are still good now.

Favorite 80s band

The thing about R.E.M. ABOVE ALL that is special is their songwriting credits: Berry, Buck, Mills, Stipe. In this they were truly (I think) revolutionary. No Jagger-Richards (Brian Jones no credit). It was THE BAND that wrote and composed and received credits for the the songs. This was a huge development in the history of rock music.

The bass and guitar work on this song reminds me of The Smiths.
