user It doesn't matter if current R.E.M. doesn't match the greatness of the IRS years and the early 90s. Their reputation as arguably the best American band of all time is assured.
user This song had some deep meaning for Michael. Shocked me to see they played it on the David Letterman show. I got to see them perform it in OKC back in 86. Michael said it was their first time. He had to keep his back towards the audience for the entire song. One of my favorites. Thanks for posting it up! I cried when they signed with Warner Bros on the Green album. I'm an IRS days only fan. Thanks again!
user For many years this song has seemed to follow me. I always hear it when in the moments I have felt all-everything that I've ever loved has been lost.
user Beautiful song. I love the early R.E.M. songs that evoke the American south a la William Faulkner or Tennessee Williams. There's a sense of longing and mystery there that made the songs really stand out from the other music of the time.
user Great post.
user i read in a recent issue of spin that this song as well as 7 chinese brothers was written about a couple that michael stipe broke up and dated both parties of. i wonder if they know it's about them, wherever they are now?
user the old stuff is so from the heart..pure and absolute..reminds me of my first love :) that first stinging heart break ..the pain lingers in the wounds :(
user I've been a fan since '83. I wish they could come to Manila soon!
user This track is usually absent when people talk about REM's best songs. My personal favorite - thanks for posting it!
user You are correct. Its a very absent song all around. Muchas Gracias for your post.
