its powerful, just like almost everyother song in metallica's arsenal..thats why is'd good and thats why it doesn't matter if its country and western sounding or thrash, the depth, emotion and raw power is still shining through strong as ever

no one shuld moan about this, james wrote this nd it has deep meanin to him, if u respect and love metallica for who they are, this song is the same as ne other. All their songs hav meaning not jus pointless babbling like some bands.

user
you are stupid... only this...

user
this song isn't bad, but it's hard to like metallica when it has a country aesthetic to it. sometimes hetfield's voice reminds me of country and him wearing that cowboy hat with the steel guitar really turns me off for metallica. i'm open minded to music, and this song isn't bad, but i just can't stand how it's like pseudo-country music.

I'm an old school Metallica fan, and even though this is as far away as You can get from thrash and metal, this is one of the most mature songs Hetfield ever wrote, alot of the 15 year old mentalities can't handle that because it's not seek and destroy, live a little longer and You'll come to appreciate good music for being just that.

user
iz a gud song but just cuz its country doesn't mean its "more mature" I hate everyone always uses that damn 15 year old stereotype. Not everyone at metallca concerts are 15 years old. Everyonr likes different kinds of music for different reasons. Not cuz they're "15"

i think frantic is the best one, st anger is pretty good to tho, all the songs r good they jus need to redo the cd

Lyrics:
1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2

Mama, she has taught me well
Told me when I was young
“Son, your life's an open book
Don't close it 'fore it's done”

The brightest flame burns quickest
Is what I heard her say
A son's heart's owned to mother
But I must find my way

Let my heart go
Let your son grow
Mama, let my heart go
Or let this heart be still, yeah still

Rebel, my new last name
Wild blood in my veins
Apron strings around my neck
The mark that still remains

Left home at an early age
Of what I heard was wrong
I never asked forgiveness
But what is said is done

Let my heart go
Let your son grow
Mama, let my heart go
Or let this heart be still

Never I ask you
But never I gave
But you gave me your emptiness
I now take to my grave

Never I ask of you
But never I gave
But you gave me your emptiness
I now take to my grave
So let this heart be still

Mama, now I'm coming home
I'm not all you wished of me
But a mother's love for her son
Unspoken, help me be

Yeah, I took your love for granted
And all the things you said to me, yeah
I need your arms to welcome me
But a cold stone's all I see

Let my heart go
Let your son grow
Mama, let my heart go
Or let this heart be still

Let my heart go
Mama, let my heart go
You never let my heart go
So let this heart be still, ohh

Never I ask you
But never I gave
But you gave me your emptiness
I now take to my grave

Never I ask of you
But never I gave
But you gave me your emptiness
I now take to my grave
So let this heart be still
