user whilst the're are without doubt similarities between the Lennon melody and Beethovens piece i dont agree that its a re-write as the're are many distinct differences, tho perhaps Lennon was influenced subconciously by the melody?,who knows?,as this happened before with Come together and Chuck Berry's You cant catch me.Peter
user Not really a truly original song musically, the melody is a rewrite Beethoven's Sonata Pathetique, no knock on John, he has written many original melodies and all songwriters, even the great ones "borrow" here and there. Lennon is such a genius he can take a classical melody and make it a transcendant pop song.
user I love this song but can you imagine how much better it would have been if John got to finish it properly before he died. I could listen to this over and over and never get sick of it.
user They look like cousin it in the beginning. I love lennon he is our modern day jesus. Bless him and Lovley yoko.
user I don't like to compare, I think they're both great in their own ways.
user You just don't hear music this good anymore. No one could write music and lyrics as good as John Lennon could, not even Bob Dylan.
user Lennon wrote better music I agree, but in words Dylan was better. Grow Old With Me is a beautiful record that I can listen over and over but John wrote a lot of crap as well, for instance the period 1966-1968 with The Beatles
user considering Lennon wrote some of his best work during that time. And Your Bird Can Sing, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, A Day in the Life, Strawberry Fields Forever, All You Need Is Love, Dear Prudence, Revolution(s)(not 9), etc. etc.
user WHAT THE FUCK?
user Actually is this.

Lyrics:
Grow old along with me The best is yet to be When our time has come We will be as one
God bless our love God bless our love
Grow old along with me Two branches of one tree Face the setting sun When the day is done
God bless our love God bless our love
Spending our lives together Man and wife together World without end World without end
Grow old along with me Whatever fate decrees We will see it through For our love is true
