Kansas was and is a great band who deserves respect and admiration and I doubt anyone here would dispute that. This was one of Kerry's gems and Steve did a stellar job both on the studio version as well as the live version found on "Two for the show". but lets be honest that this version isn't as good as either of those - for whatever reason(s), which might inclide road fatigue, alcohol abuse, or just plain boredom. But I'm still willing to respect the group for their hard work since day 1.

Yeah, & I mean - we disagree on whether this was good vocally, I like it.You don't. Further, "kick ass" to one person is different to one person than it is to the next. I know someone commenting said that they feel he's doing better now than he did here.I know from doing a good deal of singing I had to learn to pace it,after a certain age & numerous times of lumping too many high songs in a given night.Kansas had to learn some of that, too.I like the creativity & that it varies from studio take.

Mr. Belfry, The performances I spoke of were not carefully selected or in lower ranges! From 1974-1981 Walsh on his worst day after punishing, grueling touring could blow away most singers! From 1982-1986 with his other projects he continued to kick ass! From 1986-1990 he resumed his ass kicking with Kansas! It was around then that he started to show an alarming loss of weight and his voice went downhill! He got better but was never the same after that! He is again a fitness nut but his voice????

Like you said Ricz, it IS subjective, and we just disagree. Singing & living DO strain a voice,& we CAN'T know to what degree wear & tear plays in - as opposed to anything else that one declares to make something different than what may otherwise have been the case.I don't think the guy was ever a Huey. I know my weight goes up & down, without anything to do with intoxicants - which, other than coffee & one beer per blue moon,I don't-since my early 20's partake in. You're obviously smart.Rock On!

I guess I just think it sounds unappreciative to say things which,at least, come across belittling about these guys. It's good that people have ideas and opinions.I just would get more out of opinions if stated in a different way, like "while this has its merits, I also like this other performance by them..." or whatever. No one can say beyond a doubt how much "better" something like this would or wouldn't be, minus any inner-struggles(or intoxicants) may have been involved. It misses the point.

It is not unappreciative or belittling to state an opinion on any performance! It is just an opinion which is relative and subjective! Some do it tactfully others not so much!Bats people learn from this back and forth discourse! I have learned quite a bit by expressing my opinion(or critique) and then being corrected by another commentor!Come on Bats try it! It's fun and you just might learn something! Rock on in your belfry!

Besides, Kansas, or Walsh, have nothing to apologize for here. This, as are practically all their performances, good on various levels. Art from a different era, shouldn't be judged like some karaoke contest from an era which is either flat out less creative, or, at least, where less imaginative things are being chosen to be promoted in public entertainment venues. These guys pour their hearts out,& under hot stage lights, not easy-drugs or no. Advocating sobriety with a civil manner is also good.

This performance was the best musically I have ever seen from Kansas since the Kirshner shows back in '74 and '75! The only problem was Walshs vocals! Not judging just making an observation on the video and wondering what it might have been if Walsh was sober! I still love it and listen to it over and over again!

Lyrics:
I'm woven in a fantasy
I can't believe the things I see
The path that I have chosen now
Has led me to a wall
And with each passing day
I feel a little more like something dear was lost

It rises now before me
A dark and silent barrier between
All I am, and all that I would ever want be
It's just a travesty
Towering, marking off the boundaries
My spirit would erase

To pass beyond is what I seek
I fear that I may be too weak
And those are few who've seen it through
To glimpse the other side
The promised land is waiting
Like a maiden that is soon to be a bride

The moment is a masterpiece
The weight of indecision's in the air
Standing there, the symbol and the sum of all that's me
It's just a travesty
Towering, blocking out the light and blinding me
I want to see

Gold and diamonds cast a spell
It's not for me I know it well
The riches that I seek
Are waiting on the other side
There's more than I can measure
In the treasures of the love that I can find

And though it's always been with me
I must tear down the wall and let it be
All I am and all that I was ever meant to be
In harmony
Shining true and smiling back at all who wait to cross
There is no loss
