I'm I the only one who thinks that the video destroys a magnificent song. I imagine the gunner falling through the clouds to his death, and the video's going of in it's own direction. The line "in the corner of some foreign field, the gunner sleeps tonight" (meaning he lies dead)I find overpowering. I'm not sure why.

What makes you think that because America is a constitutional republic they won't fall? Germany posr 1918 was a constitutional republic and look what happened there. Not only did they fall spectacularly in 1945,they then spent the next 52 years as a divided nation. What gives America the right to say that "our idea of how society should run is the best, so we are going to invade and overthrow your rulers so you can live by it too?" After all, isnt that what the Cold War was all about preventing?

There is no system of government that will not fail. The problem is not the system itself, but those who 'run' it. Republics fall too. In fact, its hard to think of a system that hasn't fallen before. Its the naive thought that we're indestructable that will only aid in its downfall. I.E. the Romans. Also: 'invade'- To encroach or intrude on; violate (American Heritage Dictionary). That's what we did to Iraq and Afghanistan. Like it or not. Believe it or not.
