According to Merriam-Webster's online dictionary, "Etymology: American Spanish, from Spanish, like a dove, from Latin palumbinus, from palumbes ringdove; akin to Greek peleia dove..." Granted, if slang's involved in your claim I just didn't find info while searching. Thnx:)
