I saw this concert tour for DON'T SHOOT ME I'M ONLY THE PIANO PLAYER album...maybe 1972? Sir Elton cameout in one of his outrageous suits, lime green - perhaps, but HE was doing the tap dancing in really TALL shoes. Cool, very cool...yesterday, today and tomorrow.

If you listen to more than one line of the lyrics you'll see that they certainly do NOT promote teenage suicide. It's a comment about self-centered teens who think their lives are miserable and that by killing themselves they will "get back" at people or that "attempting" will get them the attention they think they deserve. It's about manipulative behavior. It has nothing to do with true depression as an illnes, either. That's completely different.

louis, maybe I clicked on the wrong "reply", I meant the comment for harrygill. Either way I don't think you understand what I meant. Most people who follow through with suicide attempts are ill or desperate for any number of reasons, but not the character IN THIS SONG. And there are real people just like this character. I also never said listening to a song would make anyone who was otherwise mentally healthy kill themselves. harrygill did.

At least SOMEONE understands this song. There are so many people who pretend to be suicidal for attention. Like EMO kids. I've seen so many people who, in truth and undoubtedly love their lives but play the suicide card because they like the attention.(not the character in this song, I know) Anyone paying attention would realize it's satirical. That's why it so upbeat.
