    Lyrics:
Grow my own, my own seeds shall be sown in New York City
But now I know that rose trees never grow in New York City

Sons of bankers, sons of lawyers
Spanish Harlem are not just pretty words to say
But they can't and that is why
It's got a lot of songs to sing
If I knew the tunes I might join in
And I thank the Lord there's people out there like you

Turn around and say good morning to the night
I thank the Lord for the people I have found
They know not if it's dark outside or light
    I thought I knew
    And now I know
    This Broadway's got

And I thank the Lord for the people I have found
Subway's no way for a good man to go down
You stand at the edge while people run you through
Rich man can ride and the hobo he can drown
While Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
    I'll go my way alone
I thank the Lord there's people out there like you
For unless they see the sky
Until you've seen this trash can dream come true

@Davegilcross He was the greatest, but after Goodbye Yellowbrick Road it was all down hill. That was in 1974

    user
@bdienstag, IMO it was almost always uphill, but what do I know :p

I'm a 20 year old, straight guy. And i think Elton John is one of the greatest musicians in history.. so anyone out there who catches shit for listening to him. Just know you're not alone and that you're taste in music has nothing to do with your sexuality.. in fact, if you could get down on the piano like him.. you could easily land girls lol.

    user
I could care less if the man is gay, straight, or wants to have sex with farm animals. The music is still genius.

    user
Pure musical genius!! Elton sounds better live on his worst night than most artists sound remastered in the studio. BruceG

    user
This the most beautiful song he has ever recorded.

    user
I grew up listening to Elton....He is my music God. There are some of his songs that I too don't care for...But, He is the best and always will be. I dare all to give him a listen, you will find many songs that you will love. Thank God for Elton John !!!!!!

    user
@MouthingWords hey, thanks i guess lol

    user
@MouthingWords i don't know you either, but your all sexy!!!

    user
@bdienstag I agree 100%, and so does Elton. His drug usage and excess and that of his songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin wrecked the Elton band for a couple of decades. Frankly, I think most musicians sort of have like, a youthful creative burst, and if success is huge, it can consume and kill- Keith Moon, and many others suffered from this.

    user
i hear you man he was a big influence on me and my music
