user I don't understand why you think that means it's not throat singing. Throat singing does not mean you must have your mouth closed and only sing in your throat; AFAIK it's perfectly possible to do with your mouth open. It's only called throat singing because the sounds are created in the throat. Anyway, even if it did mean that, I don't understand how you think time lag can explain the sounds McFerrin is making. He's throat singing!
