I don't understand why you think that means it's not throat singing. Throat singing does not mean you must have your mouth closed and only sing in your throat; AFAIK it's perfectly possible to do with your mouth open. It's only called throat singing because the sounds are created in the throat. Anyway, even if it did mean that, I don't understand how you think time lag can explain the sounds McFerrin is making. He's throat singing!

Actually, throat singing is another word for overtone singing, which isn't what he's doing. Although, this is awesome
